The Woman in Black
If you thoroughly enjoy being frightened, you’ll love this super-scary show, an exercise in pure gothic creepiness that’ll see you hanging onto the edge of your seat and jumping at the slightest sound. The fact that it has been released as a film, starring Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe, is testament to its uncanny appeal.
The Woman in Black is based on the 1983 book by Susan Hill. Stephen Mallatrat, who adapted the book for the stage, read the book on a beach in Greece, in the bright, unthreatening sunshine, but still found it an uncomfortable and disturbing experience. A classic in the making with a 1989 film version behind it as well as the 2012 movie, it’s guaranteed to give you a thrill you’re unlikely to forget in a hurry… so much so that some audience members find themselves leaving the lights on a home for weeks afterwards!
